Borsi Bangs a Bundle (Aug. 24)
Art Bors sent four balls long extending his lead in Home Runs and Average with just a few weeks left in the season. "I owe it all to the Heathen" Borsi said refering to his pitcher Stephen "The Heathen" Flanders who served up the balls. This is the second time this season (and in the histroy of SLAWB) that Flanders has given up four home runs to a batter in a single at-bat.

One Month to Go (Aug. 17)
With four weeks of play still left, nearly twice as many balls have gone long as in the 2007 including four by three different players today. "I don't think it is an equipment issue, or performance enhancing substances as much as the posibility of a lucrative pro-contract and endosement money," said league leader Art Borsi. The swirling rumors in Beijing this week about the possibility of Wiffle becoming an Olympic sport by 2024 have encouraged more focused competition and training, never before seen in the SLAWB league. "It wouldn't be the first Olympic sport with a small plastic ball," said Ben DeWalt in justification of the rumours "and by then I still won't be half as old as Mr. B." "I'll just be 70 in 2024," said Borsi, "I'll be in my Wiffle prime, because we all know old guys rule."
Four Way Fiasco (Aug. 10)
Even with Art Borsi, Michael Dalton, A.J. Dewalt and Russell Taliafero's combined 17 home runs on the season, no one could send one out in the playoff, leaving them standing in a four way tie.
DeWalt DeFeats DeWind (Aug. 3)
The only long ball - for that matter the only medium ball - for the day was a smash by Ben Dewalt, leaving the rest of the competition flapping in the breeze. The unfavorably windy conditions were not enough to stop DeWalt this past Sunday as he notched his second impresive victory of the season. DeWalt's sudden 2008 surge - a.333 average since the beginning of July - have prompted several calls to the league office questioning DeWalt's amateur status. The commissioner's office was unavailable for comment.

Alarming Victory for Dalton (July 27)
Michael Dalton bounced the results of his first swing off a car setting of its alarm and setting himself up for a Sunday victory with two long balls on the day. Dalton's performance toped A. J. DeWalt who notched his first career HR and John Mennell. Notable unofficial performance included Liam Hobbie's switch hit home run further positioning team Hobbie as the three-pronged double sided future of SLAWB.
Heathen in the Hall, Old Guys Rule (July 20)
With the shot heard round Montclair, Steven "The Heathen" Flanders went long earning a spot in the SLWAB Hall of Fame as the youngest ever to hit a home run, one week shy of his 10th birthday and baptism. Flanders' accomplishment was not at all diminished by his loss to "Ye Olde" Art Borsi who tied Flanders in regular play and won on a fourth swing homer in the playoff. Borsi's new "Old Guys Rule" hat protected him from the sun allowing the first Old Guy victory in three weeks despite the hear.
Old Guys Can't Handle the Heat (July 13)
For the second week in a row, SLAWB play has been dominated by the youth (defined as those under 40 by newly instituted Rule #8 - the "Old Guys Rule" rule which will ensure league dominance by more mature individuals even if not proven by the statistics or the actual caliber of play) While Michael Dalton walked off as the winner with the only home run of the day (and his first of the season), the most impressive performance was delivered by Theo "ther Phil" Hobbie who left four of his five swings just short of Home Run distance. Art Borsi's first blank since April 27 allowed Ben DeWalt to take the lead in average at .200 just ahead of Borsi's .194 giving DeWalt the prestigious final at bat next week.
DeWalt, DeWalt, DeWalt, DeWalt (July 6)
Ben DeWalt, in a new league record, went 4 for 5 for his own Independence Weekend fireworks extravaganza. Last week's rule change, had only a positive effect on DeWalt. "I had the the power of Jesus after taking communion," DeWalt was quoted after the copetition, "even if I had to sit through that sermon." DeWalt's stellar performance overshadowed Art Borsi's third two-home-run day of the season, giving Borsi 7 Home Runs for the season, almost doubling his 2007 producion and keeping him in the season lead. The newest young arm and preferred pitcher is Steven "The Heathen" Flanders who served both DeWalt and Borsi some of the best pitching seen in the history of SLAWB. Notable rookies for the day included all members of "team" Hobbie with Theo, Liam and Will all going long in practice and coming up just short in official play seting the stage for the first father-son-son HR combo in future weeks.
DeWalt Goes Long - But Not Enough (June 29)
Ben DeWalt crushed his first home run of the 2008 season and came an inch short of a second on a sweltering Sunday afternoon. In his ongoing attempt to maintain league dominance through obscure rule changes and prayer, John Mennell (Rector and League Commissioner) tried to implement a new rule in the middle of play. The new rule only allows official home runs to count for that days communicants. DeWalt slept in to "rest up for the competition" and missed church - a move that will be illegal beginning in July 2008. DeWalt was joined in the long ball column by Rob Smith, Art Borsi and John Mennell. Mennell's two home runs were enough to win for the day and tie Borsi for the season lead.
Borsi wins Breaker (June 22)
Old guys continue to rule as Art Borsi defeats John Mennell in the tie breaker with a walk-off home run.
