Turning Point Community Services
TPCS, Inc., is a minority-driven community-based organization designed to address the needs of underserved populations in Essex and Union Counties of New Jersey. Their primary mission commits them to empowering underserved individuals with an initial focus on homeless individuals and children -- especially those who have been victims of domestic violence. The goal is to develop and implement programs that facilitate a person's ability to become self-sufficient by helping to break the cycles of violence, substance abuse, poverty, and incarceration that have permeated their lives and placed them at increased risk for homelessness.

Enhanced Emergency Housing
Since its inception in January, 2002, TPCS has provided housing and supportive services to over 395 individuals. Current programs are staffed 24 hours per day to ensure that resident needs are addressed in a timely manner. The goal of the program is to provide safe and secure housing and services in order to facilitate the successful transition of an individual and his/her children from a state of homelessness to independent living.

Servant's House is an enhanced emergency housing program designed to provide emergency housing and supportive services to single mothers with children, especially those women who have experienced domestic violence. The program has the capacity to house approximately 24 families (depending upon family size/composition). Women and their children have access to all of TPCS programs and services as well as access to an array of outside supportive services through well-established collaborative agreements with these agencies.

On-site services include access to the Food and Clothing Pantry, individual counseling services offered by Family Connections, Inc., a weekly Women's Group, and a range of scheduled recreational activities. Particular emphasis is placed on helping the women work towards identifying those barriers and challenges that keep them at risk for continued homelessness and unemployment. As well, significant emphasis is placed upon assisting our women who have substance abuse and/or mental health issues obtain the needed services to move towards physical and emotional wholeness thereby giving them the opportunity to address those gaps which have kept them disadvantaged and disenfranchised.
