Healing Ministries
Much of what we do together as a Christian community can be healing as we invite God into our lives. The specific Healing ministries at St. Luke's include the Healing Prayer Team, Eucharistic Visitors and our Health & Wellness Ministry.
Healing Prayer Team
For many years, St. Luke's has had a Healing Prayer Team. The current memebers are very excited about where God continues to lead them. They are a group of individuals who want to stand with you in prayer through the Laying on of Hands. They offer themselves to be channels through which Divine Grace will flow into the life of another to give freedom and newness of life. Come before the altar and lay your heart to God, and you will find Chri st’s healing presence there.
Laying On Of Hands
We offer the Laying on of Hands at every 10:00 am Sunday service. If you attend the service you have probably seen two people, one in the chapel area and one in the columbarium area at Sunday services. At Communion, whether you receive the sacrament or not, you are invited to receive the Laying on of Hands. You may come for yourself; for any physical, mental or emotional need, or you may come seeking healing for someone else; a family member or a friend. If walking up for healing poses a physical difficulty, we will come to you. Just ask an usher or someone seated near you to let us know.
People have asked us: What do I have to say? What do I have to do?
Let us tell you exactly what happens. You come up. We may ask you your name. (Please bear with us if we should know your name but in the moment forget it!) If you have a special prayer request, please feel free to tell us. We lay our hands on your head and say a prayer of healing, and then we both say Amen.
Prayer List
St. Luke's maintains a prayer list to keep track of the various concerns in our community. The current prayer list is in the column to the left. New, immediate and grave concerns are read aloud on Sundays and the entirety of this list is prayed each day at Morning Prayer, at the Wednesday Healing Service and by members of the Healing Team on a daily basis. A more inclusive prayer list that includes these names, concerns for the church and the world, and weekly birthdays is mailed to the entire parish each week and included in the Sunday Paper.
While those names with immediate concerns are read aloud each Sunday, another large section of the prayer list is for longer-term ongoing concerns. We also offer ongoing prayer for those in our community who are pregnant, engaged to be married, serving in the active military,or thise who are actively involved in discerning a call to ordained ministry through the diocese. We will include thanksgivings for births and prayers for the deceased as events warrant.
Please pray for those on the list and your own needs and concerns as often as possible remebering "Whatever you ask for in prayer, with faith, you will recieve." (Matthew 21:22)
